His interest in human medicine (6 week rotation) and association in nuclear scintigraphy (authorized user and radiation safety officer) spurred his interest in cutting edge diagnostic technology. He was the pivotal individual in bringing the only nuclear medicine lab to Rochester Equine Clinic (now Myhre Equine Clinic) in Northern New England. This laboratory has now grown to include a radiopharmaceutical cancer treatments and one of the most modern gamma cameras and computer system in veterinary medicine, complimenting this modality. Dr. Myhre was also the first in Northern New England to pioneer innovations from arthroscopy to digital radiology to this region. Dr. Myhre has authored or coauthored several publications including the latest in the prestigious A.V.M.A. Journal (Fungal Osteomyelitis of the Axial Border of the Proximal Sesamoid Bone in the Horse with Dr. Kevin Sherman) in which a severe infection in the ankle of a standardbred was treated successfully with a new anti-fungal drug. Other publications include Effects of Interperitineal Betadine Solution (American College of Surgery), Effects of Nutritional Supplements Containing N-Dimethyl-Glycine (DMG) on the Racing Standardbred, a Review of Twinning in the Horse (Equine Practice), Possible Therapeutic Supplemental Progesterone to Prevent Abortion of Equine, Fractures of the Palmer Aspect of the Carpal Bones in Horses: =10 cases (JVMA 01), Clinical Results of the Use of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Device for the Treatment of Chronic Lameness Conditions to Horses (AESM – 2001) with several publications pending, including a collection of interesting cases (30) seen over several years in equine veterinary practice.
Dr. Myhre's professional interests lie in improving our already extensive diagnostic imaging modalities. Along with nuclear medicine, digital radiography, Doppler ultrasound, he is adding computer assisted tomography (C.A.T. Scan) to Myhre Equine Clinic. His vast surgical ability and experience (31 years) leads all in the Northeast. Although he is comfortable with most surgery from arthroscopy to colics, he enjoys the challenge of the “cutting edge” such as laser surgery and laproscopy.
