Interns are an integral part of the
MEC clinical team. Excellent patient care and client satisfaction
are our most important goals. MEC is a private referral hospital
setting the standards of excellence for more than thirty years.
MEC's stat-of-the-art facility provides 24 hour emergency care,
advanced diagnostics and surgical services for clients and referring
veterinarians.
MEC's newly renovated hospital houses
a full surgical suite, scintigraphy wing, large treatment room,
neonatal intensive care section, full service laboratory, digital
radiology room, C.A.T. scan room, main general exam room, lameness
evaluation area and twenty-five hospital stalls. In addition to the
hospital barn, the complex boasts twenty-five stalls in the High
Knoll Equestrian Center barn, seven in the Farrier Facility and
three quarantine stalls. The complex, in it's entirety, strives to
the New England's premier equine complex.
Our team approach allows interns the
unique opportunity to work with MEC's consultants, farriers,
experienced technicians and expert veterinarians. We provide interns
with the most comprehensive training in equine medicine, advanced
diagnostics, surgery, emergency and critical care. Expert
guidance is given encouraging interns to gain valuable hands-on
experience to develop their skills. Interns assist with outpatient
and elective procedures, care and treatment of hospital patients
emergency treatments and surgeries.
Interns can expect to see a
diversified client base including event and dressage horses,
hunter/jumpers, racehorses (Tb, STB), driving, western pleasure,
drafts, show and recreational horses. It is this diversified
experience and knowledge which makes MEC uniquely qualified to meet
the needs of any client or referring veterinarian.

Veterinary students are encouraged to
arrange for a one to two week externship, prior to internship. To
apply for an MEC internship

interest, at least three letters of recommendation, curriculum vitae
and school transcript.
