Jess Lawler, B.S., Head Instructor

HKEC is proud to introduce barn manager and head trainer, Jess Lawler. Jess has been a life long rider, and has a B.S. in Animal Science with an Equine Specialty from the University of New Hampshire. She enjoys all aspects of teaching from introducing the beginner to horses, to working with competitive riders. She shares her love and knowledge of horses with her students and works to help each one achieve their goals.

Jess is happy to work with adults and children ages 6 and up. She comes from a background working with a wide variety of breeds which allows her to create an individualized yet, systematic approach to riding.  Her goal is to create knowledgeable riders who care about all aspects of horsemanship, and horses that enjoy their work.  Jess accepts year round recreational and competitive riders, focusing on dressage and low level jumping. The program is fun, while remaining focused on correct riding and safety.

Jess keeps her students well rounded, believing this is the key to her own always continuing riding education. She has trained in hunters and jumpers, as well as working as a western trainer of colts and stallions at a champion facility. Her favorite training was in dressage at the world renowned Escola de Equitacio Alcaincia in Portugal. There she trained on Lusitano stallions under students of the great dressage master, Nuno Oliveira. She also credits her riding education and thanks the following trainers who have shaped her riding and teaching; Sherry Donabedian of Burnt Meadow Stables, Sarah Hamilton and Janet Briggs of the University of New Hampshire, Michelle Foley of MRF Dressage, FEI Trainer, Kelli Ann Kinny, and USDF gold medalist, Jackie Smith. {click here to read more about Jess Lawler}

Ms. Megan Kosky, B.S., NARHA Certified Therapeutic Instructor

HKEC is pleased to introduce NARHA Certified Therapeutic Instructor, Megan Kosky. Megan discovered her love of horses on her aunt’s horse farm in Florida and by the age of seven she was riding at the famous Claremont Riding Academy in Manhattan, NY. She studied Hunter Equitation, Jumpers and Dressage, advancing quickly and joining the Claremont riding team where she successfully competed in regional shows.

As a young girl riding on the Central Park Bridle Paths she gained a deep respect for her mounts’ moods and instincts as well as an ability to react to that ever-changing environment. There are few things more challenging for a horse and rider than negotiating the city streets, traffic and populace with calm and grace.

Summers found Megan at New Jersey’s Overpeck Equestrian Center enjoying the open spaces of the country as she worked with their horses and instructors to refine her equestrian skills.  She discovered a love for Eventing and graduated from the Vershire Riding School in Vermont. Upon her return, Claremont and Overpeck seized the opportunity to hire Megan as a riding instructor and counselor.

As a transplant to New England, the University of New Hampshire equestrian program provided her the opportunity to hone her training skills. At UNH she was the captain of the UNH IHSA team for two years and has successfully shown in the Open Division for three years, placing in the top ten three years running. Megan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire, with a concentration in Equine Studies.

Megan has successfully completed the Tellington Touch (Linda Tellington Jones) course, which added to her already considerable ability to communicate and respond to a horse’s needs. She has obtained her Certification in Therapeutic Instruction from NARHA.

Megan brings her deep respect for horses to both her instruction and her training. Megan also works with the Myhre Equine Clinic as a Veterinary Technician.
