Interns

are an integral part of the Myhre Equine Clinic team. Excellent patient care and client satisfaction are our most important goals. MEC's state-of-the-art facility provides 24/7 emergency care, advanced diagnostics and surgical services for clients and referring veterinarians.

MEC's hospital houses a full surgical suite, scintigraphy wing, neonatal intensive care unit, full service laboratory, digital radiology room, C.A.T. Scan, MRI, main general exam room, lameness evaluation area, twenty-five hospital stalls and three isolation stalls.

Our team approach allows interns the unique opportunity to work with MEC's consultants, farriers, experienced technicians and expert veterinarians. We provide interns with comprehensive training in equine medicine, advanced diagnostics, surgery, emergency, and critical care.  Expert guidance is given, encouraging interns to gain valuable hands-on experience to develop their skills. Interns assist with outpatient and elective procedures, care and treatment of hospital patients, emergency treatments, and surgeries.

Interns can expect to see a diversified client base including event and dressage horses, hunter/jumpers, racehorses (Tb, STB), driving, western pleasure, drafts, show and recreational horses.

Veterinary students are encouraged to arrange for a one to two week externship, prior to internship. To apply for an MEC internship please submit your letter of interest, at least three letters of recommendation, curriculum vitae and school transcript.

Externs

We accept students for externships from high school level up to current veterinary students.  Students are able to work closely with the interns and technicians to complete daily tasks at the hospital.  Externs may spend as much time as they desire at the clinic and can call or e-mail to set up a schedule.
