England Veterinary Medical Association Annual Conference Mount
Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods, NH Myhre Equine Clinic and New England Regional Veterinary
Imaging Center were very well represented at the conference. The conference was very fun and a big
success! The clinic and Dr. Myhre
donated a significant amount to the silent auction benefiting New England
veterinary students John Myhre Equine Scholarship fund and the New England

meeting about the Myhre Equine Clinic, and also on topics such as expectations
of a distributor, the role of the distributor in the clinic and industry, among

Dr. Myhre, an active member and past
district one board member of the AAEP, was invited to present this year at the
annual convention. He will be discussing
Standing Colic Surgery in the Draft Horse
as a table topic, where he and Dr. Dallas Goble will focus on a surgery
that he had performed at the clinic last November. Dr. Kevin Sherman and he wrote a paper on
this surgery, and it has been recently submitted to AVMA. Publication is
pending. Dr. Myhre is very excited and
honored to participate in this year’s AAEP.

Convention, please visit their website at http://www.aaep.org/convention.htm June 4, 2006 -New Hampshire Equestrian Academy Charter School The New Hampshire Equestrian Academy is busily updating its website to bring you more current information about the new academy and its progress. The old web domain (www.nhequestrianschool.org) has been changed to www.nhequestrianacademy.org. On the new website is information about the Board of Trustees. Charter school law requires that two trustees be parents. When the academy has students, parent members will be added. Interested parties are welcome to submit letters of interest for future Board openings. Minutes of board meetings are posted so you can follow the academy’s progress. The Board is working to open this September in Rochester. Temporary space has been located (academic classroom space at 60 Farmington Road and equine studies classroom space at 100 Ten Rod Road, behind Myhre Equine Clinic). These two locations are approximately 1 mile apart. Lease and occupancy reviews are in process. Applications for students and staff are now being accepted for the 2006-2007 school year. The student application process and forms to use are posted on the website. The academy plans to start small—with 20-25 students. The first acceptance date will be June 10th. Since it is quite difficult to offer a small group every high school course for every grade level, the board has voted to begin with students entering grades 9 and 10. An allowance for exceptions was voted and several students entering grades 11 and 12 have made contact for interviews. The Board will consider no more than 3 out-of-state students. These students are not eligible for any New Hampshire funding. The future campus plan has 3 buildings: 1) an equine studies center with 2 or 3 classrooms, 2) an indoor arena with horse stalls, and 3) an academy building. The equine studies center and the indoor arena (each estimated at $180,000-225,000) will be constructed first, leaving more time for the capital campaign for the academy building. The equine studies building can house academic and equine studies classes in 2006-2007, so when the Board locates funding, this building will go up and students will relocate from their temporary quarters. The Board's target date is January 2007 or sooner. If any reader would like to sponsor a building or a room, please let us know. The contribution is tax deductible. Applications are now being accepted for the Head Teacher/Director of the academic program. Full-time and part-time teachers and assistants are needed for all types of classes and areas of study (see JOBS on the website). We are beginning to accept donations of books to establish the school’s own reference library on all subjects related to horses, agricultural industries, equine businesses, business planning, ecology, and related subjects.
