Internship

Interns are an integral part of the Myhre Equine Clinic team. Excellent patient care and client satisfaction are our most important goals, whether in clinic or on the farm. Myhre Equine Clinic’s state-of-the-art facility provides 24/7 emergency care, advanced diagnostics, and surgical services for clients and referring veterinarians.

Myhre Equine Clinic has a surgical suite with two well-padded induction/recovery stalls, treatment room with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment (e.g., diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, Game Ready, shock wave, endoscopy, needle-scope, etc.), radiology, nuclear scintigraphy, MRI, in-house laboratory with PRP/IRAP equipment, pharmacy (in-house and online), 20+ in- and out-patient stalls, and multiple colic stalls, a mare and neonatal unit, and three isolation stalls, all with video monitoring capability.

Our team approach allows interns the unique opportunity to work closely with Myhre Equine Clinic’s expert veterinarians, experienced technicians, consultants, and farriers. We provide interns with comprehensive training in equine medicine and surgery, ambulatory services, advanced diagnostics, and emergency and critical care. Expert guidance is available, encouraging interns to gain valuable hands-on experience to develop their skills and expand their knowledge base. Interns assist with the daily treatments of in-patients, assisting primary clinicians with out-patient and lameness cases, surgical cases, advanced imaging of patients, and with rotating (shared) after-hours emergency coverage.
Interns can expect to see a diversity of patients, including English and Western competition horses, racehorses, driving, western pleasure, drafts, and recreational horses.

Veterinary students are encouraged to schedule a 1-2 week externship prior to applying for our internship. This helps you to interact with staff and see our facilities and us to gain a better understanding of who you are and why you are interested in the position. To apply for an internship at Myhre Equine Clinic, please submit your letter of intent, resume or curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and school transcripts. There are two positions available per year. Applications may be submitted up until early to mid-December; we will, however, accept them throughout the year, as we are a practice that takes our time finding the “right” people for our internship.

Externship

We accept students for our externship program from all levels of experience (high school to college and beyond). Students are able to work closely with the technicians and veterinarians to complete daily tasks at the hospital. Externs may spend as much time as they desire at the clinic, depending on availability. Please call (603) 335-4777 or e-mail us for more information.
