Our Staff

The most experienced veterinary surgeons, diagnosticians, and highly-educated and caring staff.

Dr. Grant Myhre

After growing up on his family's Midwest farm, Dr. Myhre has continued to build on his knowledge of horses. Graduating from the Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and completing his Large Animal/Surgery internship at Colorado College of Veterinary Medicine, and a two-year residency at Cornell University, he launched his career as a surgeon (and later, hospital director), leading the Rochester/Myhre Equine Clinic to the forefront of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Myhre has held a directorship in several professional organizations, including the New Hampshire Horse Council, New Hampshire Thoroughbred Breeders and Racing Association, New England Equine Research Fund, the New England Equine Care and Hospital Development Fund, the New Hampshire Farm Museum, and the New Hampshire Academy for Equine Sciences Charter School. His interest in human medicine (6 week rotation) and association in nuclear scintigraphy (authorized user and radiation safety officer) spurred his interest in cutting-edge diagnostic technology. He was the pivotal individual in bringing the only nuclear medicine lab to Rochester Equine Clinic (now Myhre Equine Clinic) in Northern New England. This laboratory has now grown to include radiopharmaceutical cancer treatments and one of the most modern gamma cameras and computer systems in veterinary medicine, complementing this modality. Dr. Myhre was also the first in Northern New England to pioneer innovations from arthroscopy to digital radiology.

Dr. Myhre has also presented at over 100 meetings and conferences. The latest at the prestigious AAEP in San Antonio, “The Standing Colic Surgery on the Draft Horse,” which was motivated by his extensive experience with drafts and the successful surgical correction of a large colon torsion in a 2,800 pound Belgian Draft horse in 2006. Dr. Myhre has presented at the AAEP previously (1998) on Scintigraphy in Private Practice to approximately 3,000 members. Dr. Myhre still presents to various groups including his annual veterinary/technician and farrier meetings, and to the Equine Charter students as well as various New England groups. He has been a favorite featured speaker at the nationally acclaimed “Equine Affaire”.

Dr. Myhre's professional interests lie in improving our already extensive diagnostic imaging modalities. Along with nuclear medicine, digital radiography, and Doppler ultrasound, he has added computed axial tomography (CAT Scan) to Myhre Equine Clinic. His vast surgical ability and experience (31 years) leads all in the Northeast. Although he is comfortable with most surgery from arthroscopy to colics, he enjoys the challenge of the “cutting edge” such as laser surgery and laparoscopy.

Dr. Myhre is an avid adventurer with interests in aviation, riding, sailing, and diving. He helped establish the first equine charter school in the United States because of his interests in education. As Einstein said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning.” Dr. Myhre lives his life by this philosophy:
“With this principle we not only make ourselves better but we better mankind.”

Dr. Vin is a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Following his residency at Tufts University, Dr. Vin founded 'Equine Diagnostics', a mobile unit providing referral diagnostic services to equine practitioners throughout New England. In 2005 Dr. Vin joined the Center for Veterinary Care, Millbrook, NY, and became the director of their equine division. In 2008 Dr. Vin returned to northern New England and joined Dr. Myhre at the Myhre Equine Clinic. Dr. Vin shares his time between caring for internal medicine patients at the clinic and providing ambulatory specialized diagnostic and sports medicine services. Dr. Vin's main clinical interests are emergency and critical care, neurologic, gastrointestinal, respiratory diseases and diagnostic ultrasound. Internationally featured, Dr. Vin has presented at the AVMA Convention, Equine Affaire and to the Israeli Association of Equine Practitioners. He has authored/coauthored articles that have been published in several scientific journals. During his free time, Dr. Vin enjoys spending time with his family, reading, running and horseback riding.

Dr. Alyssa E. Keto, DVM

Dr. Keto (previously known as Dr. Warneke) was raised on a small agricultural farm in rural Nebraska and brings the typical Midwestern down-to-earth personality with her to the Northeast. During her years at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she developed a specific interest in equine veterinary medicine. After receiving her doctorate degree in May 2012, Dr. Keto completed a one-year internship at the Myhre Equine Clinic and then continued on as an Associate Veterinarian and has headed our Ambulatory Services now for the past eight years. She is always eager to provide our clients with the variety of veterinary services unique to horses out in the field, and when not out on the road, she has been assisting with care of small (and large) animals at our sister clinic, Cocheco Veterinary Hospital. Her veterinary interests include equine internal medicine and lameness. In her spare time, Dr. Keto enjoys working with her Quarter Horse mare, Ivory, and relaxing at home with her husband and six cats.

Stefanie Tobin

Receptionist

Stefanie started at MEC as barn staff in the early spring of 2018, right before graduating high school, and quickly fell in love with working at the clinic. She is currently working on finishing her degree in Accounting. She started riding at the age of twelve. She also rode on the IHSA team at Endicott, before buying her first horse, a mare named Belle, in 2019. Now Stefanie enjoys her free time trail riding, going to the beach and barrel racing with Belle. When she is not working, Stef enjoys photography, reading, being outdoors, and being at the barn with Belle, and her new American Bully puppy Ivy.

Kimberly Simmons

Receptionist

Kim's love of animals began young, with every stray dog and cat in the neighborhood ending up at her house (much to her parents’ dismay!). She rode her first horse while still in diapers, took lessons through 4-H, and rode friend's horses as often as possible growing up. Kim attended Thompson School of Applied Science, where she took classes in Animal Science. She worked as a small animal Veterinary Technician in the early nineties before deciding to be a stay-at-home mom. Kim bought her first horse, Jester, a 5-month-old grade weanling, in September of 2001, and adopted her two Morgan mares in 2009. Her 4th horse, a sassy rescue pony, was adopted after having life-saving surgery here at Myhre Equine. In 2011 Kim returned to the work force at Myhre Equine Clinic as a Veterinary Receptionist and a small animal Technician at our sister hospital. In 2015 Kim transitioned to working exclusively at Myhre Equine Clinic.

When not at work, Kim can be found working around her farm, taking care of her horses, dogs, cats, and chickens. She might also be photographing nature and the wild critters that wander through the farm, kayaking, hiking, riding, reading, or writing.

Takoda can be found sleeping under the desk when Kim is working. Should you be worthy, he will interrupt his nap to say hi! Takoda enjoys long walks, playing ball, meeting new friends, and tunneling in the snow. He also likes to bask outside in blizzards and during sub-zero temperatures, ignoring Kim's calls to come inside.
